Joining the Trust Fund Board
Under the Islands Trust Act, the Trust Fund Board consists of three elected trustees (two elected to the Board by Trust Council and one appointed as a representative of Islands Trust's Executive Committee) and up to three members of the public appointed by the Minister of Community Development for terms of one to three years.

Board Vacancies
In early 2009, the Trust Fund Board ran a recruitment campaign for candidates from the general public to fill two board vacancies. At its April 9, 2009 meeting, the Trust Fund Board reviewed seven applications and selected two candidates to recommend for appointment by the Minister of Community Development. The Trust Fund Board selected the candidates based on their skill and ability to represent the conservation interests of the Islands Trust Area at large. The following qualifications were considered when reviewing candidates:
- Demonstrated interest and leadership in nature conservation issues in BC
- Experience in fundraising and budget management;
- Knowledge of the biology and ecology of Gulf Island ecosystems
- Expertise in property law and/or property risk management
- Current or past work or residence in or near the Gulf Islands;
- Demonstrated success at serving on Boards with sometimes controversial mandates
- Demonstrated experience with policy development and implementation
The Trust Fund Board anticipates that the Minister of Community Development will complete the appointment process for the two vacancies following the 2009 Provincial election.
