Species at Risk

The B.C. Conservation Data Centre has recorded sightings of Double-crested Cormorant (blue listed), Bog bird's-foot trefoil (red listed), Peregrine Falcon (red listed), Poison oak (blue listed), and Red-legged frog (blue listed) and Propertius duskywing (blue listed) in the Gabriola Island Local Trust Area. There may be additional species at risk in the Gabriola Island Local Trust Area that are not recorded with the B.C. Conservation Data Centre or whose locations are considered confidential information.

Forested Ecosystems

The Gabriola Island Local Trust Area is in the Coastal Douglas-fir Zone. No Old Forest ecosystems were found in the local trust area indicating that the entire island was logged at one time or another; however, there may be remnant old growth trees. The breakdown of forests by age class is (note: this includes woodland sensitive ecosystems, so percentages will vary from the sensitive ecosystems section above):
