Species at Risk

The B.C. Conservation Data Centre has recorded sightings of Purple sanicle (red listed), Red-legged frog (blue listed), Poison oak (blue listed), Gray's desert-parsley (red listed), Peregrine Falcon, anatum subspecies (red listed), Western Screech-Owl, kennicottii subspecies (blue listed), Purple-leaved willowherb (blue listed), Double-crested Cormorant (blue listed), Oakes' pondweed (blue listed), White meconella (red listed), Slimleaf onion (blue listed), Slender-spiked mannagrass (blue listed), Propertius duskywing (blue listed), California hedge-parsley (red listed), Lindley's microseris (red listed), Sharp-tailed snake (red listed), Twisted oak moss (blue listed), Slender popcornflower (red listed) and Erect pygmyweed (red listed) in the Galiano Island Local Trust Area.  There may be additional species at risk in the Galiano Island Local Trust Area that are not recorded with the B.C. Conservation Data Centre or whose locations are considered confidential information.
  

Forested Ecosystems

The Galiano Island Local Trust Area is in the Coastal Douglas-fir Zone.  More than 65 hectares of old forest were found to be in the local trust area.  The breakdown of forests by age class is (note: this includes woodland sensitive ecosystems, so percentages will vary from the sensitive ecosystems section above):
